My name is Howard Cole and Poieo (poy-eh'-o) is my solo studio project. I'm a worship leader at a Nazarene church in a small town in Ohio, USA. Besides serving my local church, my weekdays are spent sharing music with residents in nursing homes. I'm just a normal guy and enjoy a simple life with my family.
I got my start in music playing metal in garage bands in high school. Then I went to college for music and studied classical and jazz guitar. I was first introduced to worship music at my wife's church. All I knew of Christian music were the hymns my dad played on the organ so I thought it was pretty cool to see drums and electric guitars in church. I got the opportunity to first lead worship in 2014 and I knew then that God was calling me into ministry.
I was a pretty misguided young man even though I grew up in church. I knew how to look good to everyone I needed to but in reality my life was a mess. It was only after coming to God in surrender and coming clean to my family that I found healing. I never realized that God wanted a daily relationship with me, not for me to just come to a building on Sunday mornings. It's a miracle that my life didn't turn out very differently and I give God all the credit. Now my mission is to take the songs we sing in church and put them in a package for people who like metal.
Poieo (ποιέω) is a Greek word that's usually translated as do, make, create, produce, or fashion; but it implies so much more than just simple action. It's the idea of intentional activity that comes from a person's very nature.
Jesus used it to describe the way that a tree ποιέω (bears) fruit. James wrote to not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves, but ποιέω (do) what it says. In the beginning God ποιέω (created) the heavens and the earth. So in everything, ποιέω (do) to others what you would have them ποιέω (do) to you. Whatever the Father ποιέω (does), the Son also ποιέω (does).
If any of that has gotten your attention, check out this video! It explains a little more about where the name, "Poieo" came from and how to pronounce it.
Before you go, I'll ask for a moment of your time to help get the word out about my music and it won't cost you anything.
Poieo (poy-eh'-o) is the passion project of a small town worship leader with no record label or marketing team so I really need your help!
